Peace: Body, Mind and Spirit

What is “peace” to you? On a grand scale, perhaps peace looks like a lack of war, or famine or struggle. For some, “peace” might be having the circumstances around you fall into place, or the people in your life getting along (for once). Maybe it’s more simple than that is just the way you find your own, personal calm amid the storm. Whatever “peace” means to you- do you have it? If not, why?

peace9.jpgMaybe you’ve defined it incorrectly? Let’s explore that. It’s important that, if you’re looking for something (like peace) in your life, that you understand what it is you’re looking for, so that you know when you’ve found it.

I know, for me, peace is an inner sensation, not an outside one (although external peace is lovely too!) – and if you’re anything like me, you struggle with your inner peace at times, especially when life gets real. That being said- you’re welcome to walk with me on the path the Lord is leading me, to understand and reconnect with Peace – body, mind and spirit.

DoTERRA has an essential oil blend actually called “Peace”, which is one of my all time favorite blends- and one of my most used. To me, it smells like a beautiful chocolate, with a hint of mint and a very subtle, distant note of vanilla. I LOVE it.

Here’s how I use it: First, once I pinpoint that it’s my inner peace I’m struggling with, I stop and take a deep breath, and reconnect with the composed, collected “me”. I use doTERRA’s Peace Touch Reassuring Blend to promote feelings of contentment, composure, and reassurance when anxious feelings overwhelm me. peace4

  1. Place a drop into palms of hands and rub on the back of neck, over the heart, on your temples and bottoms of the feet.
  2. Take another drop into palms and inhale deeply- probably 10 times. As I do this, I meditate on spiritually uplifting concepts.

Philippians 4:8-9 tells us, “Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.”

Peace3-1.pngSo, for example, I Google “Scriptures about peace” and I say things like:

  • Psalm 29:11, “The Lord gives [me] His strength. The Lord blesses [me] with peace.”
  • Isaiah 43:2-3, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are Mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”

When feelings of fear and anxiousness creep into our minds, we seek for peace and reassurance from many sources- but the one, true source is the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ.  Though it can be difficult to remain calm and composed in our hectic, unpredictable world, doTERRA Peace Reassuring Blend provides an escape from discontent and worry and it’s a great tool for helping you focus your mind and attention on the peace, not the storm.

Great for:

  • Kids at night- layer on bottoms of feet along with Lavender
  • Times of grief or pain- inhale and rub over heart and onto temples as often as needed
  • Anxiousness- Diffuse or inhale directly, stop and think calming thoughts, recite a prayer or speak positive words
  • Before a test or job interview or an upcoming difficult conversation- Rub onto temples, wrists and other pressure points
  • At bedtime- Bottoms of feet and back of neck. Layer with Serenity, Vetiver and/or Lavender

Scientists and psychologists have spent centuries trying to understand the phenomena we refer to as emotions. Although science can not yet definitively explain the exact mechanisms, we do know that emotions have vast influence on well-being. Employing the most current research and the purest essential oils, the new doTERRA Emotional Aromatherapy blends are unique volatile aromatic compounds that address the emotions that so greatly influence your health.
doTERRA’s Peace Reassuring Blend is a fusion of floral and mint essential oils. The amalgamation of popular essential oils such as Lavender and Spearmint, along with the essence of some lesser-known plants such as Labdanum creates a chemical profile rich in monoterpene esters and alcohols for a renewing and toning experience.
peace2How essential oils influence emotions through their aroma is a fascinatingly complex process. It wasn’t until the early 1990s, with a Nobel prize winning study by Linda Buck and Richard Axel, that biologists began to understand the chemical sensors responsible for the remarkable effects of scent. Recently, olfactory sensors were discovered to be present not only in our nose, but also in  our skin, a discovery that has a multitude of implications for the future of aromatherapy research and essential oil use. Scent is an amazingly powerful tool that we can use to influence our lives in a multitude of ways.
So, biologically speaking, the literal smell of Peace will help you regain your composure, calm your racing heart and mind, refocus your attention and help you begin to address what is causing such a lack of peace in your life right now.
So, have you thought about how YOU define peace? The best definition of real, actual peace is found in the Bible.
In the Old Testament, the word “Shalom” is the Hebrew word for “peace” and it means, “completeness, soundness, welfare, peace in human relationships and with God especially in covenant relationship.” (Strongs)
peace5.jpgThis is seen in this example of Isaiah 9:6, “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
In the New Testament, the word “peace” is a Greek word meaning, “peace between individuals, i.e. harmony, concord; the way that leads to peace (salvation); in Christianity, the tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot, of whatsoever sort that is.” (Strongs)
This can be seen in Colossians 3:15: “And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts…”
The Bible defines “peace” as being tranquility among mankind with each other, mankind with God, an assurance of salvation in the soul and fearing nothing that the world can bring at you. THAT is true peace.
If you’re looking for peace in your life (aren’t we all?!) – know what you’re looking for and then, go after it. How? How, in a crazy and sometimes horrible world can we find true peace, amid all the ruckus, hate, bad choices and more?
You get yourself right with the Prince of Peace and then YOU. MAKE. PEACE.
Peacemakers are blessed, the Bible promises that in Matthew 5.
It starts IN you, and it emanates FROM you and extends BEYOND you.
Don’t look for perfection, look for Peace.
peace8.jpgIn Luke 2, when the angels said “Peace on earth, goodwill toward men”- they were NOT talking about stuff like world peace. They were foretelling of what the birth of the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, would accomplish. His death would bridge the gap that sin created- thereby bringing PEACE on earth, and God’s goodwill toward sinful mankind- because of Jesus.
You start THERE.
Jesus IS Peace. You MAKE PEACE.
I love you! Be blessed, friends!
