Wild Orange: Body, Mind and Spirit

Oh my goodness. Have you smelled doTERRA’s Wild Orange essential oil? If not, contact me and I’ll send you a sample. It is one of my personal favorite oils from doTERRA. For me, it’s like liquid sunshine. It smells so fresh.

wild-orange6When I was a kid, my dad loved to detail his car and when he’d get to cleaning the inside, he’d always use some sort of orange oil. The car would smell heavily of sort of woodsy, chemical orange for days and to this day, I still associate the smell of orange with things that are neat and clean, and even a mild sense of excitement and adventure because everywhere my dad went, there was always something interesting happening- and I usually got taken out for lunch too.

Funny how scent is so deeply intertwined with memory! The limbic system in your brain is the epi-center of the emotions, and the link between associating memories with the emotions they evoke. Do you have a ‘trigger’ smell like that? I have a few. Wild Orange is just one, but, thankfully, it’s a good one!

Enjoy today’s Body, Mind and Spirit connection to: Wild Orange.

With multiple health benefits and an energizing aroma that can uplift the mind and body, Wild Orange has become one of doTERRA’s top selling essential oils. I diffuse this A. LOT. Like, every day. Why? I can totally afford to inhale it all day, to my heart’s content. WHY?!

wild orange3.jpgIt’s only $10.50, wholesale, for 250 applications per bottle of doTERRA’s CERTIFIED Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oil! It would cost you WAY more than that to buy and eat a few bags of actual oranges at Walmart, and even then, you still wouldn’t be getting the benefit of an essential oils- penetrating to cells and tissues to help the body at the deepest level. Other ‘therapeutic grade’ oils aren’t *certified* pure, so don’t even get me started…

Wild Orange possesses stimulating and purifying qualities, making it ideal to support healthy immune system function when seasonal threats are high. As with many citrus peel oils, Wild Orange contains powerful antioxidants that help maintain overall health. It can be taken daily to cleanse the body or used on surfaces as a natural cleaner. Diffusing Wild Orange will energize and uplift the mind and body while purifying the air. Wild Orange enhances any essential oil blend with a fresh, sweet, refreshing aroma.

  • Use in an all-purpose spray to cleanse and purify surfaces.
  • Add a drop to your water every day for a burst of flavor and to promote overall health throughout the body’s systems.
  • Diffuse to uplift mood and energy levels and to freshen the air.
  • For an energizing boost, dispense one to two drops in the palm of your hand along with equal parts Peppermint and Frankincense. Rub palms together and inhale deeply from palms, then rub on the back of neck. SO GREAT before a workout.
  • Place three drops in your sink or bathtub drain and allow the oil to evaporate before turning on the water.
  • When you lack energy in the afternoon, diffuse Wild Orange to increase your alertness and lift your mood.
  • Make a tea with a few drops of oil in warm water and drink to support the immune system. Totally mix with On Guard, so good and boosts your body’s ability to fight off the ills of the world, all year long!
  • For an invigorating shower, add a few drops of essential oil to a body wash.
  • May also help repel slugs in the garden

Diffusion: Use three to four drops in the diffuser of your choice.
Internal use: Dilute one drop in 4 fl. oz. of liquid.
Topical use: Apply one to two drops to desired area. Dilute with doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil to minimize any skin sensitivity.

Now, even your house can benefit from the power of doTERRA’s essential oils. PURITY is what makes all the difference! If you love it, don’t ruin it- doTERRA it. 🙂

Not only does Wild Orange essential oil have unlimited uses for recipes, DIYs, and healthy living, but it also blends well with a wide variety of oils for diffusion. For a refreshing aroma, blend Wild Orange with Peppermint, Spearmint, Douglas Fir, or doTERRA’s Breathe Respiratory Blend. To instantly recreate the smells of autumn, consider blending Wild Orange with warm, spicy essential oils like Cinnamon, Clove, Frankincense, or Cedarwood. When you want to invite the scents of spring into your home, blend Wild Orange with citrus and floral oils like Lime, Lemon, Grapefruit, Ylang Ylang, Bergamot, and doTERRA’s Citrus Bliss.

NOTE OF CAUTION: All citrus oils are photosensitive. This means that, if you’re going to apply them to your skin, they can absorb light in high amounts and cause skin reactions, like sunburn. If you’re going to put Wild Orange on the outside of your body, on areas exposed to the sun, cover your skin up, or put it on at night, or wait an hour before going into direct sunlight.

The “Orange” as we all commonly know it to be is not actually its own fruit. Common oranges are hybrids of other citrus fruit.

Blow your mind with this: All citrus trees belong to a single genus called Citrus and are regularly interbred with each other to produce what we know as “oranges” or “lemons” etc. This means that there are a ton of mutations and hybrids and the consistent and repeated breeding produces the oranges we know as “oranges”- sweet oranges, as they are known.

There are other types of oranges among the most common hybrids: Bitter orange,  True Orange, Sweet and, yes, Wild Orange.

Fun Fact: Oranges have been grown for centuries, across the world. In many cultures, orange trees are known as a symbol of love and marriage.
Plant Description — Citrus sinensis (the tree in the family of traditional oranges) is an evergreen tree, also commonly referred to as the Sweet Orange tree. As the name suggests, the tree bears sweet fruit that has many uses—juices, marmalades or jellies, and flavoring for sweets and baked goods. Though there are vast uses for the fruit itself, it is from the rind of the fruit that doTERRA Wild Orange essential oil is extracted through the process of cold pressing.
Chemistry of Wild Orange Essential Oil —Main Chemical Components: Limonene
Oranges contain diverse phytochemicals, including carotenoids, flavonoids and numerous volatile organic compounds producing orange aroma, including aldehydes, esters, alcohols, ketones and terpenes.
More specifically, the primary chemical constituent of Wild Orange essential oil, Limonene, is a monoterpene that is known for its cleansing properties when used as a skin or surface cleanser, as well as its stimulating and enhancing effects on mood when used aromatically. This chemical profile is why Wild Orange essential oil is so useful in everyday life. The cleansing properties of the oil make Wild Orange useful for homemade cleaning agents. The stimulating effects of Limonene also make Wild Orange essential oil popular for diffusing and topical application when users want to promote energizing or uplifting feelings.
GREAT to diffuse for mood and energy. This is an addition to drop into my diffuser no matter what I’m diffusing that day.

So, this is so fascinating about Wild Orange and I LOVE the thought-provoking aspect of how much of the complexity of the mind of God is shown in the deliberation of His beautiful creation. Did you know that orange trees have never been found in the wild? That makes “Wild Orange” somewhat of a misnomer. The orange tree has no known origination point. People surmise it originated in either China or India, but no one can prove it.

For that reason, orange trees, because there is no known origination tree, are continuing hybrids of various types of orange-esque citrus fruit trees, and must be grafted to produce the true “oranges” we know and love. So, here’s this morsel for your heart today:

wild orange8.jpgIn John 15:1-8 Jesus said,I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.  You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”

“No branch can bear fruit by itself, it must remain in the vine” – that is so true with the orange tree. It MUST be grafted in order to survive. We, as God’s creation, have no origin apart from Him. And to bear good fruit in our lives (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control- See Galatians 5:22-23), we must allow ourselves to be grafted, and pruned. Neither process are “fun” for the plant, but they are necessary to its survival. Tissues literally grow together to become ONE. No longer does the plant have its own identity, but it literally becomes a new plant who isn’t an independent branch, but a genetic offshoot of the tree.

wild-orange7When we are grafted into the DNA of Jesus Christ, we then have a tree of origin. Paul wrote, in Romans 11, “…if the root is holy, so are the branches…and you, though a wild shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root… You do not support the root, but the root supports you.”

Remain in Christ. Know Him through the Word of God. Allow your mind to be renewed and transformed, to let yourself to be grafted. II Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if anyone be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

In the passage from John, above, Jesus said three main things:

  1. Remain in Me
  2. Let Me remain in you
  3. Let My words remain in you

That is how you stay grafted into the tree of origin. Like the orange tree, we are all hybrids- independent, unique fruit, similar, but without a true identity. Jesus Christ is the One who gives us the point of origin. In Him, we truly find ourselves.

Be blessed today!
